چکیده
1T HE DUMBELL-DIFFUSION CELL described by Nobel (1) is made from a ball and socket joint, each end of which is formed into a bell-shaped flask. This cell is applicable to rapid testing of blood for the presence or absence of various toxic constituents. it allows diffusion, absorption, and i(lentiflcation reactions to proceed concurrently under a variety of conditions (Table 1). [sing this apparatus, carbon rnofloXi(le can l)e (letermine(l semiquantitatively in 10 mm. at room temperature by placing a filter-paper dhsc, impregnated with palladium chloride, in tile junction between the ball and socket members of tile joint. To decrease the reaction time required for volatile alcohols and chlorinated hydrocarbons, tile entire cell can be immersed in an oscillating water bath at 100#{176}. The choice of chemical methods was based on previous work by Gettler and Freimuth (2) and by Feldstem and Klellshoj (3).

Air pollution measurements in traffic tunnels.
Air pollution measurements during April 1991 are reported from the Craeybeckx highway tunnel in Antwerp, Belgium. The tunnel was used daily by an average of 45,000 vehicles, of which 60% were gasoline fueled passenger cars, 20% diesel cars, and 20% trucks. Of the gasoline cars, only 3% had three-way catalysts. Tunnel air concentrations of nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide, carbon dioxide, carbon...
متن کاملPassive Sampling of Aromatic Hydrocarbons Toluene, Xylene and Ethylbenzene Using Activated Carbon Fabric in Ambient Air of Tehran
Background & Objectives: Air pollution is one of the most important environmental problems in large cities. Aromatic hydrocarbons as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have been listed in Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) by Environmental Protection Agencies (EPA). The aim of this study is Passive sampling and determination of aromatic hydrocarbons (AHs) toluene, xylene and ethylbenzene using ...

the main cause for concern about global warming and climate change. Primary air pollutants include carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide, water vapour and un-burnt fuel, hydrocarbons, including volatile and non-volatile organic compounds, oxides of nitrogen, sulphur dioxide (traces), and particulate matter. Pollutants, such as small particles arise not only from the exhaust but also from the roa...
متن کاملAttenuation of methane and volatile organic compounds in landfill soil covers.
The potential for natural attenuation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in landfill covers was investigated in soil microcosms incubated with methane and air, simulating the gas composition in landfill soil covers. Soil was sampled at Skellingsted Landfill at a location emitting methane. In total, 26 VOCs were investigated, including chlorinated methanes, ethanes, ethenes, fluorinated hydroc...
متن کاملMass balance studies of volatile chlorinated hydrocarbon phytoremediation.
In field-scale mass balance studies of poplar remediation of carbon tetrachloride (CT), more than 95% of the mass of CT was degraded with all of the CT chlorine accountable as chloride ion accumulation in the soil. Atmospheric loss of CT through leaf transpiration and trunk diffusion was insignificant. These findings are consistent with previously reported uptake and degradation of trichloroeth...
